About Douglasville Georgia

The city of Douglasville is the county seat of Douglas County in the State of Georgia. Douglasville is located about 20 miles west of Atlanta and is easily accessed via exits 34, 36 or 37 from Interstate 20. According to the last U.S. Census in 2000, the population of Douglasville was 20,065. There were 7,286 households and 5,078 families residing in the city’s area of 21.5 sq. mi. Douglasville’s population was estimated to have increased to over 30,000 in 2007, and that increase makes it one of Georgia’s fastest growing cities. The median age is 31 and the estimated median household income in 2006 was $50,500 per year as compared with Georgia’s estimated median household income of $46,832. Douglasville is a friendly, suburban community where business flourishes and opportunities for new businesses are encouraged by the city in many ways.

Historic Downtown Douglasville is a hub of activity

At the center of Historic Downtown Douglasville is O’Neal Plaza where many shopping boutiques and restaurants are located. The Plaza contains a beautiful old brick pyramid fountain. Various festivals are held in the Plaza each year like the Olde Towne/Whole Towne Garage Sale in April, Concert on the Plaza in May, Flag Day on O’Neal Plaza in June, one of best Independence Day parades and fireworks shows in the area on July 4th, the Halloween Moonlight Run, and the Cultural Arts Center Chili Cook-off in late October. Two of the largest events, the Candlelight Tour of Homes and the Old Fashion Holiday celebration are both held in December.

The main business area in Douglasville where most of the major retail stores and food chain restaurants are located is between Chapel Hill Road and Highway 5, around what is known as the Douglas Boulevard Corridor. Georgia’s 4th largest shopping center, Arbor Place Mall, is also located in this area. Zoned for commercial development, there are many exciting opportunities for new businesses who wish to relocate, and financial incentives such as free design assistance, low interest loans, and grant funding are available from the city for business that relocate to Historic Downtown Douglasville and are willing to undertake renovations consistent with the city’s design plans.

Douglasville contains several different styles of residential developments

There are many master planned developments in Douglasville, each of which is designed differently but includes various amenities for the residents such as golf courses, swimming pools, tennis courts, and clubhouses for socializing. Home prices typically range from the low $100,000’s for single family homes on relatively large properties to multi-million dollar palatial mansions on huge estate sized properties. The good news is that it is still possible to find a single family home in a nice Douglasville neighborhood for well under $200,000.
