Douglasville Georgia Arts, Theatre, and Museums

The best museums, theater shows, symphonic and operatic performances can be found only a short distance away from Douglasville in Atlanta, and some very interesting artistic and cultural activities are also available to people here in Douglasville. Located in the original 1875 Duncan-Pope building, which is the oldest structure in downtown Douglasville’s O’Neal Plaza, the Douglasville School of Art provides art students with the opportunity to work in a professional artist’s studio and to have their work displayed in an art gallery. Art classes for both children and adults are available, and scholarships are often awarded to talented individuals. The Douglasville School of Art is located at 6774 West Broad Street in Douglasville, (770) 577-8180.

Douglas County Cultural Arts Center is another great resource for residents

The Douglas County Cultural Arts Center, whose purpose is to teach, guide, and inspire community participation in the arts, is another wonderful resource for residents. More than 10,000 children participate in the center’s programs each year. Working together with the Douglas County school system, the Douglas County Cultural Arts Center provides workshops in the schools and special outreach programs to nearly 500 disadvantaged students and their parents. In addition to art shows held throughout the year, the center also hosts special events periodically. The Douglas County Cultural Arts Center is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Roberts-Mozley house on the grounds of the center was built by a Georgia State Senator in 1901 and has been the home of three Douglasville mayors. The Douglas County Cultural Arts Center is located at 8652 Campbellton Street in historic Douglasville, (770) 949-2787.

Gold is still being discovered only few miles from Douglasville

The Pine Mountain Gold Museum at Stockmar Park is where the first gold rush in Georgia occurred in the 1830’s, and it is Georgia’s only gold museum. Located at the site of a real gold mine with over 3 miles of walking trails, a 4,800 sq. ft. museum, an authentic 19th century gold stamp mill, and a small theater that shows a 20-minute documentary illustrating the history of the gold mine. Children are thrilled by the fact that people can actually pan for gold at the museum’s gold panning site where 98% pure gold can still be found occasionally. The Pine Mountain Gold Museum is located at 1881 Stockmar Road in Villa Rica, (770) 459-8455.
