WellStar Douglas Hospital serves the residents of Douglasville and Douglas County. Located at 8954 Hospital Drive in Douglasville, Wellstar Douglas Hospital is a participating member of the WellStar Health System, which is the largest non-profit hospital system in the State of Georgia. The hospital has 98 beds, adult and pediatric and intensive care units, and a surgical department that performs approximately 6,000 surgeries each year. In addition to births and other types of general surgery, special surgical operations include ENT surgery, GYN surgery, orthopedic surgery, thoracic surgery, plastic surgery, urological surgery and vascular surgery. Southwest Hospital and Medical Center is only 11 miles from Douglasville. This is a privately operated, non-profit healthcare organization with a 125 bed acute care facility that is staffed by more than 200 highly trained physicians and accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health care Organizations. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper, Southwest Hospital and Medical Center has undergone several changes in ownership during the last few years but residents in the area are adamant about wanting to preserve the hospital’s traditional function of serving the community. 16 miles from Douglasville in Atlanta is Anchor Hospital, which specializes in providing behavioral health and chemical dependency services to adults and adolescents who are age 12 and older. Their Acute Inpatient Program has 101 beds for patients who are in crisis and need intensive care and psychiatric stabilization in order to be able to deal with chemical dependencies. 24-hour a day nursing care is provided for these patients. The hospital also has an Adolescent Inpatient Program for young people who suffer from severe behavioral problems and substance abuse issues. Anchor Hospital’s Partial Hospitalization Program assists adults and adolescents who need help but do not require inpatient hospitalization, and their Intensive Outpatient Program provides 3 hours of daily therapy for people who live at home and need to maintain a work schedule.
